Coloring order

  1. Start with the huge net spread across John's and James's laps. You can fill the mesh with one earthy yellow-brown.
  2. Color the two men's clothes, beards and curly hair in different colors so you can tell them apart.
  3. Finish with the wooden floor of the boat, the baskets, and the small figure standing on the far shore with the hills.

Questions to talk about

  • What might John and James be chatting about while they mend the net?
  • What would the two do if someone called to them from the shore?
  • Have you ever fixed or repaired something? How was it?

Take it further

Try a simple weaving game with yarn or string. Each person holds a strand and together you make a net shape, sharing how it feels to work side by side.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
