Coloring order
- Color the sky and clouds peach and pale gold and the sun at the top right yellow. Add only light blue shadows to the snowy peaks, then color the pines on the left green and the rock ledge warm gray.
- Color Alpinaire's body and thick neck ruff pearl white, and tip the wing and tail feathers with icy cyan and cobalt. There are many feathers, so the wings and tail can be done separately.
- Color the swept-back ice horns cyan and the claws dark gray. Finish the icicles of the ice cave and the frozen stream on the right in light blue and blue, leaving the falling snowflakes white.
Questions to talk about
- With one paw raised, where is Alpinaire climbing to on the ledge?
- What do you think is inside the ice cave?
- If a friend got lost on the snowy mountain, how might Alpinaire help?
Take it further
Fold white paper and cut out snowflakes, then unfold them and compare how each one's shape is different.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
