Coloring order

  1. Paint Sylvarok's thick legs and chest in two or three browns like tree bark, adding short lines along the wood grain.
  2. Color the leaf scales across the back, shoulders and tail one by one, alternating three shades of green.
  3. Finish with the branching antlers on the head and the vines hanging down the left side in light brown and yellow-green.

Questions to talk about

  • Sylvarok's antlers branch like a tree. How many branches can you count?
  • What would the small forest animals say when they meet Sylvarok?
  • What shapes and colors have the leaves you've seen in a park or forest?

Take it further

Collect fallen leaves on a walk, sort them by shape, and glue them onto paper to make a leafy mane for Sylvarok.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
