Coloring order

  1. Haewon's wide skirt spreads across the bottom of the page, so color this large, fold-filled shape first in one calm rosy shade.
  2. Add the teacup in her hand, the teapot on the small table and the wooden lattice post in browns and beiges.
  3. Alternate reds and pinks on the plum blossoms reaching in from the upper right, and use a soft blue-gray for the layered mountains far behind.

Questions to talk about

  • What scenery do you think Haewon sees while she sips her tea?
  • What might the air smell and feel like when the plum trees bloom?
  • When is your favorite time of day for a quiet cup of tea?

Take it further

Cut the finished February page into a long bookmark, punch a hole near the plum branch, and thread a ribbon or string through it.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
