Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 7–11
Estimated time: 35–50 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 130

Coloring order

Begin with Mary's headscarf and long dress, and with Jesus' white robe and the cloth over His shoulder as He opens His arms.
Use grays and browns for the open tomb's stone arch, the round stone rolled aside, the steps in front and the stepping-stone path.
Finish with the lilies in front, the little flowers on the hillside, and the rays and rising sun behind Jesus.

Questions to talk about

What kind of tears are on Mary's cheek?
What did Mary feel when she saw the big stone rolled aside?
When you hear happy news, who do you want to tell first?

Take it further

Just as Mary ran to tell the disciples in John 20, take your picture to your family and tell them the story of this morning.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
