Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 9–12
Estimated time: 50–75 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 310

Coloring order

Start with the tall towers and curving bridges of the future city in cream and pale orange, and keep the mountains and sunset sky behind them light.
Color the flying roadster concept floating large in the middle silver, then split the wheels and the jet streams beneath them into dark gray and sky blue.
Finish with the hanging vines and flowers on the layered sky gardens, the canals below and the small waterfall in green, pink and blue.

Questions to talk about

What do people in this city grow in their sky gardens?
Where might the flying cars stop to rest in this city?
If our neighborhood got a sky garden, where should it go?

Take it further

Stand toilet paper tubes and small boxes up to build a future city, then decorate the tops with paper flowers and vines to make sky gardens. Pick a spot where a paper flying car can park.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.

Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
