Coloring order

  1. Color Lakecho's body, tail and both legs in one lake-blue first, and keep the belly a pale sky blue.
  2. The round ripple patterns on its side and shoulder get light blue and deep blue in turns, working from the center outward.
  3. Blend the tall rounded crest from orange at the top to soft pink below, and add the gray claws last.

Questions to talk about

  • Can you count the circle patterns on Lakecho's body?
  • What sound might Lakecho make with that round crest?
  • Have you ever shouted across a lake or valley and heard an echo?

Take it further

Roll paper into a horn, make up a calling sound like Lakecho's, and take turns calling and answering with a friend.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
