Coloring order
- Color Nestara's feathery body and the crest on its head in chestnut or reddish brown, and the chest in pale cream.
- The big fan of tail feathers on the left gets red, pale yellow and teal in rings, one band at a time from the inside out.
- Take turns with teal and deep maroon on the wing feathers, and finish the curved beak and claws in a dark shade.
Questions to talk about
- The tail feathers are spread wide like a fan. Why might Nestara open them?
- What precious thing might Nestara be guarding?
- Have you ever protected something you love? How did you do it?
Take it further
Tear paper into strips and shape a round nest, drop a few little paper balls inside, and draw how Nestara looks after them.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
