Coloring order

  1. Color the sky light blue and the sun yellow, and leave the clouds white. Give the floating islands gray rock and green trees, make the two waterfalls light blue and the stone bridge on the left gray.
  2. Color flying Aerosail's body white and cream, the broad wing panels turquoise and blue, and the wing bones and needle-like horns gold.
  3. Alternate blue and gold on the windblown mane, the back feathers and the feathery tail tips, then finish the claws in gold.

Questions to talk about

  • Which island do you think Aerosail is flying to?
  • If you lived on a floating island, what would be fun and what would be tricky?
  • Where do you think the water from the island waterfalls ends up?

Take it further

Make small paper islands, hang them on strings, add cotton-ball clouds, and build your own floating-island mobile.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
