Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 9–12
Estimated time: 60–90 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 560

Coloring order

Color the stalactites on the ceiling and the cave walls gray and the pointed crystals between the rocks violet. Keep the stone stairs and arch at the top right gray too, so the cave looks deep.
Color Aurevault's body scales and spikes amber gold and the chest and belly cream. Alternate gold and burgundy across the faceted gem wings, piece by piece; the wings can be their own session.
Color the curled horns and key-shaped tail tip gold and burgundy, the treasure chest wood brown with gold trim, and finish with yellow coins and green and red gems on the floor.

Questions to talk about

What do you think is inside the treasure chest?
How did Aurevault come to guard this treasure?
What is your most precious treasure? How would you keep it safe?

Take it further

Decorate a small box as a treasure chest and fill it with drawings or notes of your own 'treasures'.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
