Coloring order

  1. Fill the thin panels of Chronogear's wide wings with teal and pale green first, and trace the wing frames in brown.
  2. Color the round gears and metal plates on the body and legs one at a time, alternating brass, copper and gold.
  3. Last, finish the pinwheel shape at the end of the segmented tail curled on the left and the sharp claws in deep brown.

Questions to talk about

  • How many gears can you find on Chronogear's body?
  • What sounds would this clockwork dragon make as it moves?
  • Have you ever played with a wind-up toy or something with wheels?

Take it further

Line up cardboard tubes, buttons and bottle caps on a box and glue them down to build a gear-and-parts model like Chronogear.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
