Coloring order
- Color the plump part of the drumstick light golden brown first, then add deeper brown around the edges for a crisp look.
- Use white or very pale gray lines for the paper frill wrapped around the bone end.
- Color the round plate ivory, and draw a pink-and-white checked cloth in the empty space around it to finish.
Questions to talk about
- What does the white frill at the end of the drumstick remind you of?
- On what special day would this plate be on the table?
- Can you remember a day when something smelled really delicious? Where were you?
Take it further
Cut thin fringes along a strip of white paper and roll it into a frill for play parties. Does it look like the one on the drumstick?
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
