Coloring order

  1. Color the sky a wide wash of light blue, then color the huge rainbow arching across it one stripe at a time, changing colors from the outside in.
  2. Rainbow sits on the green hill. Color the dragon yellow, the wings orange and the belly bands a lighter shade, and the hill in two alternating greens.
  3. Finish with the smiling sun at the top right, the clouds at both ends of the rainbow and the little flowers in the corners, each in its own color.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think is at the end of the rainbow?
  • The sun is smiling. What might it be saying to Rainbow?
  • Have you looked up at the sky after the rain stopped? What did you see?

Take it further

Draw a long rainbow strip on paper, then let each friend add one stripe in a favorite color to build a big class rainbow.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
