Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 6–10
Estimated time: 20–35 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 190

Coloring order

Start with the tilted square wooden maze board Nari is holding up and its blue path. Try a light wood color for the frame.
Give the horseshoe magnet she holds under the board and the star, cube, cylinder and triangle pieces on top a different color each.
Finally, color Nari's backpack, Toto perched at the edge of the maze, and the window with the bookshelf and globe behind.

Questions to talk about

How far along the maze path do you think the marble can roll?
What might happen to the marble when the magnet moves underneath the board?
What do you do when you hit a dead end in a maze?

Take it further

Draw your own magnet maze with a pencil on paper, put a small picture marker at the start and trace the path with a finger. Challenge a friend to solve it too.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
