Coloring order

  1. Color the spacesuit and the helmet rim white and pale teal first, matching the glove that gives a big thumbs-up.
  2. Color the three round buttons at the bottom red, yellow and green, and the ball on top of the control stick at the right red.
  3. Out the window, color the big Earth blue and green, the Moon on the right gray, and the dark space around them navy with yellow stars.

Questions to talk about

  • The spaceship pilot is giving a thumbs-up. What do you think went well?
  • Red, yellow or green button: which would you press first, and why?
  • You can see Earth and the Moon out the window. Where is this ship headed?

Take it further

Stick paper buttons and a lever onto the front of a box to build your own cockpit, then press them one by one and make up a spaceship story.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
