Coloring order
- Color the long sideways cloud bands one stripe at a time, rotating cream, orange and light brown. The stripes make up most of Jupiter.
- Color the big swirl at the lower right, the Great Red Spot, in deep red and orange, and make the eyes and smile nice and bold.
- Give each of the four round moons around Jupiter its own color: yellow, pale blue, gray and brown. Finish with three yellow stars.
Questions to talk about
- Jupiter has so many stripes. How many can you count?
- What does the big swirl at the lower right look like to you?
- What do you think the four round friends around Jupiter are chatting about?
Take it further
Draw sideways lines on a paper plate, color them in orange, cream and brown, then glue four small paper circles around it for your own Jupiter.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
