Activity guide for this page
- Recommended age
- Ages 5–8
- Estimated time
- 25–40 min
- Difficulty
- Medium
- Areas to color
- about 110
Coloring order
- Color the wide lake ripples at the bottom light blue first, and give the long white boat reaching the right edge just a blue outline.
- Make Ian's cap white and his life vest yellow, then split the two long oars in his hands between blue and black.
- Leave the round lane buoys, the stone bridge and mountains, and the boathouse and willow on the right for the end.
Questions to talk about
- How far across the lake will Ian row?
- Why do you think a rowing boat is so long and narrow?
- Besides a life vest, what other rules should we follow near water?
Take it further
Sit facing a partner, hold both hands and rock back and forth as if rowing a boat. Count "one, two" out loud to keep the same rhythm together.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
