Coloring order

  1. Color Penny's head, back and flippers black or deep navy first, leaving the belly and front of the face white.
  2. Tint the white coat lightly with pale gray only along the collar and folds, and paint the stethoscope around the neck blue.
  3. Finish the little orange beak and the two feet, then the round eyes in black.

Questions to talk about

  • What is Penny listening for with the stethoscope held to the chest?
  • If a little toy friend came to visit, what would Penny say?
  • Have you been to a clinic? What was the doctor like?

Take it further

Lay a toy friend down, use a paper tube as a stethoscope, and gently ask 'Where does it feel uncomfortable?' in a pretend clinic.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
