Coloring order

  1. Color Barnacle's smooth brown body and the flipper tail trailing below in two browns, with a lighter tone under the face.
  2. Paint the captain's jacket navy, the gold buttons and the anchor badge on the cap yellow, and the white part of the cap white.
  3. Finish the big ship's wheel in front, coloring each spoke in browns, and the post that holds it a shade darker.

Questions to talk about

  • Where is Barnacle steering the ship?
  • What would the sea lion captain most like to spot out on the water?
  • Have you ever ridden on a boat? What did it feel like?

Take it further

One person is the captain and calls 'Right!' or 'Left!' while the others turn on the spot, sailing together as one ship.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
