Coloring order

  1. Color Percy's body and wings in white and pale gray, and the long, big beak orange, before anything else.
  2. Use two browns for the leather flight jacket and cap, and cream for the fluffy collar of the jacket.
  3. Fill the unfolded map with green, yellow and blue paths and lands, then finish the scarf, the shoulder bag and the webbed feet.

Questions to talk about

  • What roads and places might be drawn on the map Percy is holding?
  • If you could fly a plane anywhere, where would you go first?
  • Have you looked down at the view from somewhere high? What did you see?

Take it further

Fold paper planes and fly them toward the destinations on a map drawn on the floor, giving each plane a name and a landing spot.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
