Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 5–8
Estimated time: 30–40 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 110

Coloring order

Begin with the long robe of Jesus and the cloth draped over his shoulder as he sits in the middle; white with a red sash, as in the color reference, works well.
Give each child a different color: the girl on his lap, the boy on the left holding one flower, the girl hugging a bouquet, and the boy sitting and laughing.
Finish with the three butterflies, the sun, the trees and hills behind, and the wildflowers filling the front.

Questions to talk about

How do you think the girl on Jesus' lap is feeling right now?
What kind words might Jesus have said to the children?
Who gives you big hugs? How do you feel when they do?

Take it further

Read Jesus' words in Mark 10, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them." Then cut out paper flowers and hand them to one another like the children in the picture, each saying a kind blessing.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
