Coloring order

  1. Start with Samuel's long white beard, his red cloak, and the striped sash with tassels hanging from his shoulders.
  2. Color kneeling young David's curly hair and green vest, then the horn Samuel tips over his head in warm amber.
  3. Finish with the clothes of the people standing behind, the striped rug on the floor, and the jar and fruit basket at lower left.

Questions to talk about

  • How do the people standing behind Samuel feel right now?
  • What might David be thinking with his head bowed?
  • Has someone ever noticed your kind heart? How did it feel?

Take it further

Remember that David looked after sheep. Make a little lamb from cotton and a paper cup, then act out a short scene of David caring for his flock.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
