Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 8–12
Estimated time: 40–60 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 190

Coloring order

First color the thick trunk of the sycamore tree on the right and its broad leaves. Two greens help the leaf veins show.
Color Zacchaeus waving from the branch, with his robe and cap, and Jesus below looking up with His hand raised.
Finish one by one: the townspeople and children gathered along the street, the stone houses and windows, the pointed trees and the cobbled road.

Questions to talk about

Why do you think Zacchaeus climbed all the way up the tree?
How did Zacchaeus feel when Jesus called his name?
How do you feel when someone calls your name kindly?

Take it further

Have a group stand in a row while one child stands behind, trying to peek on tiptoe. Then, as in Luke 19, a friend in front warmly calls that child by name and invites them forward.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
