Coloring order
- Color Raincrest's long body, the slim tail and the slender legs in a soft teal first, using one or two shades.
- Blend the twin crests on its head from yellow to orange to red like a fan, and give the throat and belly a pale cream.
- Add short orange stripes down the back and tail, then finish the lifted foot and the spread claws in a dark color.
Questions to talk about
- The two crests stand side by side on its head. What shape and colors do you see?
- Raincrest has one foot lifted. What kind of dance is it doing?
- What sounds did you hear the last time it rained? Can you dance to them?
Take it further
Clap a rainy-day rhythm, lift one foot like Raincrest and dance. A folded paper fan held above your head can be your own pair of crests.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
