Coloring order

  1. Start with the outside of Inksurge's coiled body in cream and the stripes along its belly in gray.
  2. Color the brush-tip mane streaming along the body in black, letting only the very ends bleed into red.
  3. Last, fill the swirling tail tufts at the bottom, the sharp claws and the long tongue outside the mouth in black and red.

Questions to talk about

  • Inksurge's mane looks as if it were painted with a brush. What does it feel like to you?
  • Why might this dragon be coiled up in such a tight shape?
  • Have you ever painted with a brush? What did you paint?

Take it further

Use a thick brush or brush pen to sweep thick and thin curved lines across white paper, practicing strokes like Inksurge's mane.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
