- Challenging
- Areas to color
- about 420
Coloring order
- Color the night sky around the crescent moon midnight blue and the moon and little light dots yellow. Make the big mushroom caps pink with cream stems, and the stump on the right and fern at the top left brown and green.
- Color Myceluna's round moth wings lavender, leaving the round spots cream. Use cream for the body, pearl for the bead-like back scales, and alternate green and raspberry pink on the leafy mane.
- Make the mushroom-cap horns pink with spots and the lantern at the tail tip warm yellow. Finish the fallen leaves, smooth stones and bottom leaves in brown, gray and green; background and dragon can be separate sessions.
Questions to talk about
- What might the lantern at the end of the tail do in the dark forest?
- Who do you think lives inside the hollow stump?
- If you walked through a forest at night, what might you hear and see?
Take it further
In a dark room, shine a flashlight behind a paper mushroom or leaf drawing and notice how the colors change when light comes through.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
