Coloring order

  1. Start with the dawn sky, distant mountains and waterfall beyond the cave opening, then color the cave walls and stones warm beige and gray and the ferns and vines green.
  2. Color Nestora's body and belly warm cream, mix sage green, amber and terracotta across the leaf wing and layered leafy scales, and make the twig horns brown.
  3. Give each of the three eggs its own color while keeping its pattern, color the woven nest and tail in browns, and make the hanging crystal lights sparkle in pale turquoise.

Questions to talk about

  • What kind of baby dragons might hatch from the three eggs?
  • What story might Nestora tell while guarding the eggs?
  • How are the patterns on the three eggs different from each other?

Take it further

Weave small twigs or paper strips into a nest, put paper eggs inside, and give each egg a name and a story about the baby dragon inside.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
