Coloring order
- Start with the huge wings wrapped around Noctyra's body, filling the wide sections with deep purple and navy.
- Leave the sharp outer edges of the wings and the scales under the neck white or silver-gray so they shine like moonlight.
- Last, color the feather-like tail trailing at the lower left and the curled claws in a dark violet.
Questions to talk about
- Why do you think Noctyra wraps its wings around its body?
- What lights would you like to see in a pitch-dark sky?
- Have you ever looked out a window at night? What did you see?
Take it further
On black paper, draw stars and a thin crescent moon with a white pencil crayon to make a night sky for Noctyra to fly through.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
