Coloring order

  1. Begin with Jinwoo's coat that reaches down to his ankles, filling it widely with one charcoal or ink-dark shade.
  2. Color the scarf around his neck and the cup held in both hands in green and white so they stand apart from the coat.
  3. Finish with the cloud-like pine clusters at upper left, the jars below and the lantern under the eaves in pale sky blue, leaving white for snow.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think Jinwoo is thinking about before he takes a sip of that warm tea?
  • What is the first sound you would want to hear in a hanok yard full of fresh snow?
  • Do you remember a winter morning when your breath showed up white in the air?

Take it further

Color with a cup of tea beside you, then write one thing you hope to do this year on the back of the January page and stand it on your desk.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
