Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 6–10
Estimated time: 30–45 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 260

Coloring order

Color the three-bladed wind turbine Nari grips with both hands first. A light sky blue for the blades and silver-gray for the pole work well.
Make the small bulb joined by the wire and its base glow with yellow light, and color kneeling Nari and Toto's clothes as well.
Last, color the row of sunflowers below, the wooden fence and the clouds. Try yellow and brown for the sunflowers.

Questions to talk about

If the wind blows harder, will the bulb shine brighter?
What kind of dance would Toto do watching the blades spin?
Have you ever run holding a pinwheel? How did the blades move?

Take it further

Make a paper pinwheel that spins like a mini wind turbine and compare it by a window or in the yard when the wind blows and when it does not.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
