Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 8–12
Estimated time: 45–60 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 380

Coloring order

Start with the sky-blue skirt and the layered see-through sleeves, leaving the little cloud patterns white.
Then color her small crown, her long black hair, the sparkling gem above her raised hand and the bluebird on the railing.
Last, add the floating islands with their waterfalls, the gold-roofed castle, the rainbow and sun, and the white flower vine at lower left.

Questions to talk about

What do you think the sparkling gem she is holding up is?
Who might live on the floating islands?
Have you ever seen a cloud shaped like something funny?

Take it further

Look up on a clear day and say what each cloud looks like, then glue cotton onto blue paper to make the cloud you found.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
