- Estimated time
- 35–50 min
- Difficulty
- Medium
- Areas to color
- about 310
Coloring order
- Color each layer of the tall pile of mattresses in a different shade so that the stack really looks high.
- Then color her braided brown hair, the little crown, and the mint-green dress with its diamond-patterned hem.
- Save the checks, flowers and diamonds on each quilt, the green slippers under the bed, and the moon and castle in the window for last.
Questions to talk about
- Would it be comfy to sleep on so many mattresses?
- How would it feel if one tiny pea were hiding under all of them?
- What is the one thing you need at bedtime?
Take it further
Draw one pattern on each sheet of paper (checks, diamonds, flowers), stack and glue them into your own pile of quilts, and count the layers.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips
- Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
- Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
- Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
- Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
- The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
