Coloring order

  1. Start with the round stone dome of Seokguram. Alternate gray and beige from block to block so the stacked stones stand out clearly.
  2. Keep the stone pillars on either side of the entrance and the wide stone laid across them bright, then shade the doorway in the middle with dark brown or gray.
  3. Color the stone steps in front and the bumpy rocks along the ground, then dab green into the gaps between the rocks for moss.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think is inside the dark doorway?
  • How might your voice echo under a round stone roof?
  • Have you ever seen a cave or a big rock in the mountains?

Take it further

Seokguram is a Silla-era stone grotto on Tohamsan Mountain in Gyeongju, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site together with Bulguksa. Drape a blanket over a table to make a little grotto, crawl inside and talk about what you see looking out.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
