Coloring order

  1. Start with the woven basket the boy holds in both hands, using two browns for the weave, then the round loaves and the two fish.
  2. Color the boy's messy hair, laced-up shirt, trousers and shoes, and give his smiling face a soft peach tone.
  3. Finish with the green hills and the little house behind him, the smiling sun and clouds, and the daisies in front.

Questions to talk about

  • Why do you think the boy is smiling so brightly as he holds out his basket?
  • How do you think the boy felt as he gave away his whole lunch?
  • Have you ever shared something of yours with a friend?

Take it further

Only three loaves show in this basket. Draw two more so it matches the "five barley loaves and two fish" of John 6, then count the bread and fish one by one together.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
