Coloring order

  1. Begin with the shepherd's long robe, belt and head cloth in browns as he stands in the middle, then the tall crook he holds.
  2. Leave the wool of the lamb on his shoulders white and lightly color just its face and ears, then the shepherd's smiling face and beard.
  3. Finish with the dirt path winding over the hills, the two sheep on the left, the flock far away, and the wildflowers along the bottom.

Questions to talk about

  • How do you think the shepherd felt while he was searching for the lamb?
  • What might the little lamb on his shoulders be thinking now?
  • Have you ever lost something precious and then found it? How did you feel?

Take it further

Tell the story from Luke 15 of the shepherd who found one lost sheep out of a hundred and carried it home on his shoulders, rejoicing. Then hide a cotton-ball lamb in the room and search for it together, cheering when it is found.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
