Coloring order

  1. Start with the big tree spreading its branches across the top, its curving trunk, and the grassy hills behind in greens and browns.
  2. Color Rachel's long hair and robe as she cuddles the lamb, leaving the lamb's wool white and coloring only its ears and hooves.
  3. Give each brick of the round well a slightly different reddish brown, and finish with the two sheep grazing in the field.

Questions to talk about

  • What might Rachel be whispering to the lamb in her arms?
  • What do you think a day was like for Rachel as she cared for the flock?
  • Is there someone or something you take care of, like a sibling, a pet, or a plant?

Take it further

Tell how Rachel brought her father's sheep to the well in Genesis 29 and Jacob rolled away the stone to water them. Then glue cotton balls onto a paper plate to make a lamb, and hold it gently like Rachel.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
