Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 8–11
Estimated time: 40–60 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 160

Coloring order

First color the cliffs on the left and the rocks below in reddish orange and brown, changing how dark you press for each layered rock stripe.
Color the flying roadster concept tilting into a turn to the right in silver and gray, and the jet streams angling out beneath it in sky blue.
Leave the round rock arch on the right, the river winding through the valley, the shrubs and the rising clouds of dust for the very end.

Questions to talk about

Why do you think this car is tilted sideways as it flies?
How would it feel to pass under that rock arch?
What would the animals living in the canyon do when they saw this car?

Take it further

Cut a car shape from paper and tape it to a stick, then lean left and right as you steer it through a pretend canyon. The aisles between desks make a good canyon.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
