Coloring order
- Start with the puppy sitting up front: color its body, floppy ears, and tail honey or golden brown, leaving only the tongue for pink.
- Split the puppy's Santa hat into red and white, then color the layered branches of the tree behind it and its round ornaments.
- Finish with the two stockings and flames at the fireplace, the round braided rug, and the open present box in the bottom right corner.
Questions to talk about
- What do you think came out of the open box?
- Why might the puppy be smiling so big?
- Where does your family gather to stay cozy on cold days?
Take it further
Give the Christmas puppy a name, then tell the story of its day by the fireplace in three sentences. A teacher or parent can write it down to tape under the picture.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
