Coloring order

  1. Color Voltaris's stretched wing membranes in bright sky blue and deeper blue, changing the shade a little between each bone.
  2. Leave the jagged lightning lines across the wings white, or trace them thinly in pale yellow, so they glow against the blue.
  3. Finish the dark navy scales, the spiky tail tip and the sharp claws with two deep, dark shades.

Questions to talk about

  • How many lightning-like lines can you find across Voltaris's wings?
  • In a storm with thunder rumbling, where might Voltaris be flying?
  • What is the first thing you think of when you hear thunder?

Take it further

Draw lightning zigzags on blue paper with a white crayon, then brush thin watercolor over them to make a stormy sky for Voltaris.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
