Coloring order

  1. Color the gaps between the round greenhouse's glass frames sky blue and the floor light gray first, then do the rows of flowerpots in an orange-brown.
  2. Color gardener Haeun's straw hat with its bow, her striped T-shirt, overall dress, and boots, then make the watering can in her hands gray or silver.
  3. Finish with the tulips, sunflower, roses, the round flower clusters near the bottom, the hanging fern pot, and the trailing vine leaves, giving each flower its own color.

Questions to talk about

  • What is Haeun thinking about as she smiles with her eyes closed?
  • After the sunflower gets its water, how might it look tomorrow?
  • Have you ever grown a plant at home or in your classroom?

Take it further

Lay a damp paper towel in a clear cup, set a few beans on it, and keep it by the window. Draw how much the sprouts have grown at the same time each day.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
