Coloring order

  1. Start with Haewon's long dark coat and the full skirt flowing beneath it. These are the biggest shapes, so two deep shades will do.
  2. Color the cup held in both hands, the scarf at her neck and the hair ribbon in matching greens so they read as one set.
  3. Finish with the snowy branch at upper left, the jars by the steps and the lattice door on the right in pale blue-grays, leaving white for the snow.

Questions to talk about

  • Have you ever wrapped both hands around a warm cup on a snowy morning?
  • What do you think Haewon is thinking about as she stands in the snowy yard?
  • When the snow on top of the jars melts, how will the courtyard change?

Take it further

Trim the finished page to postcard size and write a short January greeting on the back. A warm cup of tea alongside makes it feel even more fitting.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
