Coloring order

  1. Start with Nari winking as she looks through the microscope, the white microscope itself and its base. Split the body between silver and black.
  2. Give each of the four round bubbles floating above her head, with tiny creature drawings, a different color for each shape. Imagine what each one might be.
  3. Last, color the jar of pond plants at lower left, the dish, the dropper, the glass slides, the leaf and Toto.

Questions to talk about

  • What kind of tiny friends might live in a single drop of pond water?
  • What do you think Nari found with her winking eye?
  • What is the most amazing thing you have seen through a magnifying glass?

Take it further

If you have a magnifying glass, look closely at a leaf or petal and draw the patterns you see big on the back of the page. Watching pond water through a microscope begins with small things like this.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
