Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 6–9
Estimated time: 35–55 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 280

Coloring order

Start with the long cloak wrapped around Winter Rose Princess Rosella. Try a deep rose red like the reference, and leave the fluffy fur trim along its edges white.
The skirt falls in layers like overlapping petals: color it soft pink, and make the ruffled underskirt at the very bottom cream. Deep red suits the rose clusters stitched onto the skirt.
Finish with the rose basket in her hands, the little bird on the iron gate post to the right and the snowy rose arch on the left. Color the pointed castle roofs in the back blue and red, taking turns.

Questions to talk about

Who do you think Rosella is bringing these roses to?
What might the little bird on the gate be saying to her?
Have you ever seen flowers outside on a snowy day?

Take it further

Cut a paper cup in half, add a paper-strip handle to make a little basket, and fill it with roses made from crumpled red paper. Then carry the basket like the princess and hand a flower to each friend, one at a time.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
