Coloring order

  1. Color Piper's yellow body and its two stacked wings first, then switch the top wing to blue so the two wings are easy to tell apart.
  2. Use red for the round red nose in front of the propeller and the two wheels, and brown for the thin struts connecting the wings.
  3. Color the runway below gray and leave the white stripes blank, then finish with light green grass behind and sky-blue clouds above.

Questions to talk about

  • Why do you think Piper has two wings, one above the other? What do you see?
  • What might Piper say right before taking off into the sky?
  • Have you ever seen or flown on a plane? What sounds did it make?

Take it further

Fold a paper airplane from construction paper, write Piper's name on it, and tape a runway line on the floor for a takeoff game.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
