Coloring order
- Cover the whole Martian ground in rusty orange and brick red, then use a deeper brown for the three rocks lying on it.
- Color the spacesuit white with green trim on the helmet sides and sleeves, and the small rock held up in the hand brown.
- Color the rover on the right light green with dark gray wheels, then the little rocket behind it and the small planet in the sky.
Questions to talk about
- The Mars explorer astronaut is holding up a rock. Where do you think it was found?
- Where will the wheeled rover roll to, and what will it look at?
- Have you ever picked up a stone at home or the playground? What shape was it?
Take it further
Crumple newspaper and color it red to make Mars rocks, hide them around the room, then search like a rover crew and give each one a name tag.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
