Coloring order
- Start by filling the Sun's round face with a bright, even yellow, then add a touch of pale orange over the curved swirl lines inside it.
- Alternate orange and red on the wavy, flame-shaped rays all around the face. Color the eyes and the inside of the smile dark and bold.
- Last, color the oval orbit line under the Sun navy, and the shooting star in the top right and the three little stars in yellow.
Questions to talk about
- The Sun's rays wiggle like flames. What else do they look like?
- This Sun is smiling wide. What would it say first thing in the morning?
- Yellow, orange or red: which one feels most like your mood today?
Take it further
Draw your own Sun face on a fresh sheet and pick a favorite color for every ray. Then say each color's name out loud to a friend.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
