Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 5–8
Estimated time: 25–35 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 90

Coloring order

Color the rounded stone walls of the den and the rim of the opening above in ochre and brown, then the beams of light pouring down in pale yellow.
Color the robe and belt of Daniel sitting in the middle, eyes closed and smiling, then the manes of the three lions curled up asleep like cats in orange and brown.
Finish with the stars showing through the opening, the floor, and the tufts at the ends of the lions' tails.

Questions to talk about

Why do you think Daniel looks so calm among the lions?
What might Daniel have been praying in his heart in the den?
When something scares you, what helps you feel calm?

Take it further

Tell how God sent his angel to shut the lions' mouths in Daniel 6. Then everyone curls up like the sleeping lions in this picture and plays a quiet game where no one may roar.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
