Coloring order

  1. Start with the rain clouds and falling raindrops, the clock tower, chimneys and houses behind, then color the roof tiles terracotta and the arched windows a warm lamplight yellow.
  2. Color Pluvielle's body and belly silvery white, mix deep teal, periwinkle and plum across the teardrop scales, and fill the wing membrane panel by panel in teal and lavender.
  3. Color the drops hanging from the horns and wing tips and the curling splash tail in pale sky blue, then add shiny reflections to the puddles on the wet tiles.

Questions to talk about

  • Where do you think Pluvielle is going, walking across the rooftops in the rain?
  • How many drops can you find hanging from Pluvielle's horns and wings?
  • What sounds do you hear outside the window on a rainy day?

Take it further

On a rainy day, watch how drops slide down a window, then use those shapes to design a new scale pattern for Pluvielle.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
