Coloring order
- Start with the sky, clouds, gulls, the distant cliffs and rock arch, and the sea, then color the wreck's broken planks and mast brown and the torn sails cream.
- Color Tidemast's scales ocean blue and teal and the belly sand cream, and give the spotted sail-fin wings and spiky fins a cream base with rust orange.
- Color the barnacles on the shoulders and legs, the driftwood horns and the anchor-shaped tail tip, then finish with the seaweed, shells, starfish and tide pools on the rocks.
Questions to talk about
- How do you think this ship ended up stuck in the bay?
- What might Tidemast be guarding from its rock?
- What creatures might you find in a rock pool at the seaside?
Take it further
Look closely at a seashell or a photo of the seashore and notice its shapes and patterns, then write a short story about the secret hidden in the shipwreck Tidemast guards.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
