Coloring order

  1. Begin with the blue liquid and bubbles Nari is pouring into the big round flask. Two shades of blue will give it depth.
  2. Give Nari's safety glasses and jacket and each of the three test tubes in front their own color. Choose which colors you think might mix.
  3. Last, color Toto on the stool, the dropper, the white towel and the small bottle, and tint the round floating bubbles in pale colors.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think was mixed to make the color in each of the three test tubes?
  • What do you think Toto is saying as it looks at the flask?
  • Has mixing paints ever given you a color you did not expect?

Take it further

Just like a color-changing liquid experiment, ask a grown-up to help you fill three clear cups with water and drip in a drop of watercolor to watch it swirl.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
